Avi Wiezel

Short Bio:

Avi Wiezel held several managerial positions with construction and engineering firms in both Eastern Europe and Israel. In addition to his construction management duties, he was in charge of developing, implementing, and maintaining the computer integrated construction processes in the companies he worked for. His activities resulted in continuous productivity improvements averaging 15% per year for the units in which he was in charge.

He taught construction and computing classes on three continents (Asia, Europe and America) to students of all levels, ranging from vocational high-school to doctoral students. Since 1995 Avi Wiezel served on the faculty of the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University (ASU) where he currently directs the Graduate Program and leads the School’s instruction on information technology. Avi Wiezel is an inventive and collaborative educator who shares his innovations with his colleagues through personal discussions and the publication of several articles addressing the integration of information technology in education. His classes consistently earn the highest student evaluations in the school. He is the recipient of the 2005 “Best Teacher Award” from ASU’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering. He also serves as the Secretary of the Education Committee of the Technical Council on Computers and Information Technology (TCCIT) in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is the officer in charge of research for the ASCE Global Center of Excellence in Computing.

He has mentored and supervised about 25 students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, Automation in Construction, Journal of Construction Education, and Construction Management and Economics.

Constructability Modeling and Technology Ontology; Human Skill Modeling; and Sports Engineering. He is the President of the Faculty Senate of the Ira A. Futon School of Engineering and head of the Sports Engineering Group at Arizona State University.
