Alfredo Serpell

Short Bio

Dr. Alfredo Serpell is Professor and Head of the Department of Construction Engineering and Management at the Catholic University of Chile.
He is very active in research on Construction Management and has more than 50 papers in journals and conferences. He is also the author of a book on construction operations management and the coauthor of a book on construction planning and control.
Professor Serpell is the Editor of the Journal of Construction Engineering and the Executive Director of the Center of Excellence for Construction Quality, both at the university. He is the general manager of a training unit within the university and the partner of an external consulting company. He is a member and the Co-coordinator of the Working Commission 107 Construction in Developing Countries, a research group within the CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction) and an active member of the Project Management Institute, American Society for Quality and American Association for Cost Engineering International.
He has researched on topics like expert systems applied to construction, the application of IT to site management, and modeling of project scopes using case-based reasoning.

Professor Serpell graduated as Civil Engineer at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and attained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
