Tomasz Arciszewski Tomasz Arciszewski studied in Europe (Poland), and worked on three continents (Africa, Europe, and North America), and in several countries (Nigeria, Poland, Switzerland, and the USA). He believes in the globalization of science and engineering and he works toward this goal. At George Mason University, Tomasz Arciszewski teaches courses in structural engineering, on Design and Inventive Engineering, and on decision making. He is a Co-Director of the Graduate Certificate Program on Discovery, Design, and Innovation. As the Department Chairman, he is also actively involved in making his department the leading institution of higher education in the area of IT-centered Civil Engineering. Tomasz Arciszewski has more than 120 publications, including book chapters, journal papers, and conference proceedings papers. Recently, he served as guest editor for the Special Issue of the Journal of Technological Forecasting and Social Change, entitled "Innovation: the Key to Progress in Technology and Society." Professional activities are an important part of Tomasz Arciszewski's life. He is active in the ASCE, where he is the Chair of the Executive Committee in the ASCE Global Center of Excellence in Computing. He is also on the editorial boards of two journals. He is the recipient of the ASCE 2004 Computing in Civil Engineering Award. To remain sane, he is also actively involved in sports, working out regularly, scuba diving, and occasionally becoming involved in high performance driving.
