Raju Pathmeswaran

Short Bio:

Dr. Raju Pathmeswaran is a Research Fellow in the Salford Centre for Research and Innovation (SCRI) and a part-time Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment at the University of Salford (UK). He has completed PhD in Semantic Web based E-Learning at the University of Salford, MSc in Broadband & High-Speed Data Communications at the University of Westminster and Bachelor of Computer Science at Monash University. He is currently teaching Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to undergraduate students at the University of Salford. Before becoming a Research Fellow, Dr. Pathmeswaran has worked as a Project Coordinator for the European Social Fund (ESF) project “Construction and Black & Minority Ethnics” which has created significant impact in the U.K. through various mass media publications. As part of this project, he has co-ordinated “Diversifying Construction” workshop which attracted several participants from industry, academia and government bodies. He has also worked as a Research Assistant on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded "Standardisation of e-Learning in Construction" project which was rated as “Tending to Internationally Leading” by the EPSRC in the final assessment.

Dr. Pathmeswaran was involved with organising various conferences and workshops including International Research Week in the Built and Human Environment (UK), 8th International Postgraduate Research Conference in the Built and Human Environment (Czech Republic) and Workshop on Embracing Complexity in the Built Environment (UK). He has also co-ordinated the Association of Researchers for Construction Management (ARCOM) workshop on “Emerging Technologies in Construction” in 2006. Dr Pathmeswaran was involved with several research bids to EPSRC, ESF, Leverhulme Trust, RICS Education Trust, British Council and HP Education Trust with the total budget over £1 million (GBP).

Dr. Pathmeswaran is a guest editor of the Journal of Information Technology in Construction for the special issue on “Use of Gaming and Virtual World technology in Architecture, Engineering and Construction” (2010). He was also a guest editor for Built & Human Environment Review Journal (2009) and was a co-editor for the proceedings of the International Research Symposium (2009). Dr Pathmeswaran was awarded best paper in Construction IT at the 9th International Postgraduate Research Conference in 2009. His main research interests are on the Intelligent Agents, Virtual Worlds, Semantic Web, Ontologies, Digital Economy and Mobile Computing.
